Trinidad and Tobago’s Chief Justice lends support to the national bid to win ten or more Olympic gold medals by the 2024 Olympic Games (#10Golds24). This bid is a project of the Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Committee (TTOC), which was officially launched in 2015 to support our nation’s athletes. The Honourable the Chief Justice Mr Justice Ivor Archie O.R.T.T. and family will participate in the 34th Edition of the Trinidad and Tobago International Marathon (TTIM), together with members of the TTOC.
The TTOC has registered to participate in the Marathon as a fund raiser and to raise awareness with the permission of the TTIM Committee for the #10golds24 Athlete Welfare and Preparation Fund. The fund is expected to provide health and financial support for Olympic, Paralympic and Commonwealth athletes.
The Chief Justice is a longstanding advocate of health and wellness, with particular emphasis on youth development and sport as a way of engaging young people positively and encouraging them to lead productive crime-free lives. His Lordship pledged his support and that of his family on 29th December 2015 at the TTOC’s Annual Awards Ceremony. Members of the Judiciary’s fitness team, Xtreme Justice, will also join the Chief Justice in supporting the initiative.
The Judiciary has a Health and Wellness policy, which provides a holistic framework for the establishment and management of the health and wellness programmes for staff and members of Xtreme Justice have been actively participating in events for the past year.
The event consists of two races: an International 5K which takes place on Saturday 16th January; and the International Marathon on Sunday 17th January, 2016. The Marathon will see runners and walkers both local and international attempt 42 kilometres either individually or as relay team. This year, for the first time, the TTIM Committee introduced the Marathon Relay, which consists of six legs that are seven (7) kilometres each, beginning at St. Mary’s Junction, Freeport.
Participants will experience Trinidad and Tobago’s Carnival festivities during their stay as well as view the scenery, including cane fields, bridges and the magnificent seven historic buildings along the finish stretch by the largest round-a-bout in the World, the Queen’s Park Savannah.
